Who these are with
These terms are between you and Dan Bierre, who makes and runs Shoji in New Zealand (“we”, “us”). By installing Shoji, creating an account or buying Shoji Pro, you agree to them. Questions: [email protected].
Using Shoji
You may install Shoji on your own Windows PCs and use it free, for as long as you like, for personal use or for your work. Shoji is licensed to you, not sold: please don't copy, resell or redistribute the app, or try to get around how Shoji Pro is unlocked.
Shoji Pro
- What it adds: focus mode, trackers, time tracking and invoices, connectors, the longer reviews, and the account with private sync, the live timer and the phone apps. The current list is on the questions page.
- Price: US$8.99 a month or US$69.99 a year, plus any tax your country adds. Shoji Pro isn't on sale yet; when it is, the price you pay is the one shown at checkout.
- Free trial: 14 days of Pro, once per person, with no card needed. When the trial ends, Shoji goes back to Free unless you subscribe.
- Renewal: a subscription renews each month or year until you cancel. If we ever change the price, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
- Payments: handled by a payment company acting as the seller, whose own checkout terms also apply. We'll name them before Pro goes on sale.
Cancelling
Cancel any time. Pro stays on until the end of the period you've paid for, then Shoji goes back to Free. Nothing is deleted.
Refunds
Within 14 days of any payment, you can have a full refund, no questions asked. See Refunds for how.
Your data
What you put into Shoji is yours. It's kept on your PC, and if you turn on sync, a locked copy is kept on our server that we can't read. If Pro ends, the Pro features stop, but you can always open and read your own data, and export it. How we handle personal information is in the privacy policy.
Focus mode
Focus mode only does what you set it up to do: it closes the apps on your block list and blocks the sites on your list during a focus session. Closing an app can lose unsaved work in it, so save your work in those apps before a round starts. You choose what's on the lists, and you can stop the timer at any time. Shoji is a tool to help you focus, not a guarantee that you will.
Your account
Keep your sign-in and your sync password safe. Because your data is locked with your sync password before it leaves your device, we can't recover the synced copy if you lose that password and every signed-in device. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
Fair use
Please don't misuse Shoji's servers: no attempts to break in, overload them, read other people's data, or use sync to store things that aren't your Shoji data. We may suspend or close an account that does, and will tell you why where we can.
The service
Shoji works on your PC without the internet. Sync, sign-in and other online parts depend on our servers and providers, and may sometimes be slow or unavailable. We'll do our best to keep them running and to tell you about planned changes. If we ever stop offering sync, we'll give you notice so you can keep your data, which stays on your devices regardless.
Your rights and our limits
If you're a consumer in New Zealand, you have rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act and the Fair Trading Act that these terms don't take away; the same goes for consumer rights where you live. If you're using Shoji for a business, you agree the Consumer Guarantees Act doesn't apply, as the law allows.
Apart from those rights, Shoji is provided as it is, and we don't promise it will be free of mistakes or suit every purpose. As far as the law allows, we're not responsible for indirect losses (such as lost profits or lost work), and our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid us for Shoji Pro in the 12 months before the problem.
These terms follow the law of New Zealand, and New Zealand courts can decide any dispute, without taking away your right to use the courts where you live if your local law gives you that.
Changes
If these terms change, we'll update them here and change the date at the top. For changes that matter, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using Shoji and cancel Pro, and ask for a refund within the usual 14 days.
